3CX’s Breaking Changes – AKA Good Luck Out There

3CX often likes to change how their software and systems work. Many times, these changes are forced and without recourse. Sometimes these changes are without warning.

In an ideal world 3CX would version out these changes, allowing anyone who is not ready to adopt these changes to stay on their current version. Unfortunately this is out of the question as 3CX forces updates via activation services. You see, every year 3CX cycles the certificate on the activation server and only allows the latest version to activate. Every so often your already activated PBX will also attempt to re-activate, which upon failing to do so will cause it to revert to a free mode with limited features.

Below I’ve compile a short list of changes 3CX makes that causes Partners and Customers to deal with “now broken” systems. More might be added in the coming days and weeks.

  • Losing multi-tenant when moving from Version 14 to Version 15
  • Breaking Live Chat by releasing a new update on WordPress that was incompatible with the latest version of 3CX stable available to the public.
  • Losing ability to route SMS differently then calls in v18 U5

This is far from a complete list – it’s not meant to be – but instead it’s meant to highlight how 3CX can change a feature at any time and your use of the system can be affected with no recourse.
